Sioux City pours a bold, classic American root beer: cane-sugar sweet, full-bodied, and squarely rooty with caramel-and-vanilla warmth underneath. Reviewers tend to land it in the snappy, sturdy camp rather than the silky-cream camp, so the creaminess reads as a supporting note rather than the headline, and a faint artificial edge keeps it just shy of craft-tier polish. It's a dependable, nostalgia-leaning pour in a heavy embossed bottle that rewards anyone after a straightforward, satisfying root beer.

The maker

Sioux City is a heritage soda line owned by White Rock Beverages of Whitestone, New York, and built around an "Old West" theme, with its distinctive embossed glass bottles introduced in 1987 as one of the era's early upscale niche soft drinks. The root beer is formulated with pure cane sugar and is produced under contract by Orca Beverage at its plant in Mukilteo, Washington. White Rock fields a full Sioux City range alongside the root beer, including sarsaparilla, birch beer, ginger beer, and cream soda.
