Ginger beer
Sprecher Ginger Beer
Sprecher Brewing · Bold ginger heat
Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
Fire-brewed in small batches with real ginger, pure cane sugar, and raw Wisconsin honey, this is ginger beer built for people who want the burn. It opens with bright, peppery aromatics, then lands a genuinely assertive gingerol heat that warms the back of the throat and lingers into a dry, faintly sour finish softened by a thread of honey. Squarely at the spicy, full-bodied end of the ginger-beer spectrum, it reads less as a sweet soda than as a bracing, mixer-grade brew with real chemesthetic bite. A polarizing pour rather than a crowd-pleaser, it rewards drinkers who treat ginger heat as the main event.

The maker
Sprecher Brewing Company was founded in 1985 by Randal Sprecher, a former Pabst brewer, as Milwaukee's first craft brewery since Prohibition; it relocated to nearby Glendale, Wisconsin in the mid-1990s. The company is best known for its fire-brewed sodas, made in a gas-fired kettle that caramelizes the sugars, and its ginger beer is brewed with real ginger as a bold mixer and standalone craft soda. New local ownership took over in 2020 and expanded national distribution.
