Ginger beer
Bruce Cost Fresh Ginger Ale - Original
Bruce Cost Ginger Ale · Unfiltered fresh-ginger ale
Brooklyn, New York, USA
Brewed from real fresh ginger you can actually see suspended in the bottle, this is a soft, full-bodied take on ginger ale rather than a fiery ginger beer. The cane sugar pushes it to the sweeter end of the category, and the carbonation stays gentle, so the experience reads round and almost juicy, with a candied-ginger warmth that builds across sips and a touch of citrus lift from the citric acid. The unfiltered pulp gives it a weighty, craft-beverage mouthfeel uncommon in the style, finishing with a peppery ginger tingle rather than a sharp burn. It sits as a polished, crowd-pleasing gateway ginger ale and a reliable cocktail mixer, more approachable than the bracingly hot artisanal ginger beers.

The maker
Bruce Cost Ginger Ale launched in 2010 when chef and Asian-cooking authority Bruce Cost commercialized the fresh-ginger ale he had long served at his restaurants. The company makes its unfiltered sodas from 100% fresh ginger rather than extract, with production at its own facility in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The Original is the brand's flagship and best seller, built on just four ingredients with no extracts.
