A-Treat's brown birch beer leads hard with wintergreen — bright, sweet, and unmistakably minty rather than rooty, with a cool methyl-salicylate lift that defines the whole sip. Caramel color lends a dark cola hue and a faint brown-sugar backbone, while a soft creamy texture rounds out the body before a clean, minty finish. Carbonation runs a touch sharp and the sweetness is generous, placing it at the candy-forward, crowd-pleasing end of the birch spectrum rather than the dry, bark-driven artisanal end. A regional Pennsylvania favorite that drinkers tend to love well above what its straightforward formulation would predict.

The maker

A-Treat is a Pennsylvania soda brand that traces back to 1918, long bottled by the A-Treat Bottling Company in Allentown and a regional staple of the Lehigh Valley. The original company ceased production in early 2015, but the brand was acquired by the Allentown-based Jaindl Companies, which revived it and resumed bottling its lineup of caffeine-free flavors. Birch beer and sarsaparilla are among the styles A-Treat is best known for in eastern Pennsylvania.
